I've been in a Fairfield County car accident. Do I need a lawyer?
You don't have to hire a lawyer, but choosing to speak with a legal professional about your accident may be able to help you get more money in your pocket. Hiring an attorney is especially important if your accident caused injuries or property damage. Without a lawyer in your corner, you may find insurance companies try to take advantage of you to keep payments at a minimum. You may have never had to file a claim. You may find insurance adjusters pushing you to accept a quick settlement. Don't become a statistic. A knowledgeable Fairfield County attorney can level the playing field and help make things right.
What can a lawyer do for me after a car accident in Connecticut?
Car accident lawyers in Connecticut can help accident victims in a variety of ways. After an accident, injury victims often face tight deadlines and mounds of paperwork - and this is in addition to the burden created by the accident itself: skyrocketing medical bills, lost wages from missing work, and uncooperative insurance companies that want you to settle your case as quickly as possible. Vishno Law Firm can help cut through the confusion. We'll make sure all necessary paperwork is filed on time. We'll negotiate with insurance companies to maximize the compensation you need - and deserve - to get your life back on track. We don't represent insurance companies or other large corporations. People come first at Vishno Law Firm.
Can't I just talk to the insurance adjuster without having to hire an attorney?
You can, but you may jeopardize your claim. You may end up with a small settlement or your claim might even be denied any compensation. The insurance companies love it when victim's attorneys are not involved. Some companies train their adjusters to seem to be very warm and helpful. The "friendly" adjuster might get you to say things that can later be twisted or taken out of context. Maybe you were seriously injured in the accident, but you have good and bad days. On a good day, you might tell the adjuster you "feel fine." Later, the adjuster might testify that your injuries were minor, based on what you told him. There are so many ways that talking to an adjuster can harm your case. Let Vishno Law Firm handle the adjuster for you.
I was partially at fault for my accident. What can I do?
First of all, don't admit any fault. An investigation may reveal that you in fact did nothing to cause the accident. But if it's determined that you were at fault, you still may be entitled to compensation. Connecticut follows the "51% Bar Rule," a modified comparative fault law allowing accident victims to collect damages if ruled 50% or less at fault. That means accident victims can be up to 50% at fault and still recover damages. However, if it's determined you are 51 percent or more at fault, you cannot recover compensation.
Can I file a lawsuit after a Connecticut car accident?
Yes. After contacting Attorney Vishno for a free case evaluation, you may learn you have grounds to file a personal injury lawsuit or wrongful death lawsuit against the party who caused your accident. While most car accident claims are settled outside of court, sometimes litigation is necessary. We can work with you to file a lawsuit in the appropriate court. We will only do so at your discretion, after all legal options are explored and the best course of action is established. As your legal advisers, it's our responsibility to provide sound legal guidance as you pursue compensation against a negligent party that caused your accident.
What's my car accident case worth in Connecticut?
There's no set amount a car accident attorney aims to recover for clients. Each case is different. Each client is different, too. Many variables exist that can affect the outcome of a case. Factors involved in determining a claim's value include medical treatment, your income (or loved one's income if he or she died), damage to your vehicle, pain and suffering, emotional distress and other possible damages. We understand how much is at stake after a serious accident. That's why we work so hard to give each client one-on-one, personalized attention.
